It is a comfortable eco-experience with wind and solar electricity and hot water, wood heating and is free from distractions like TV and in-room phones.

The perfect place to base for exploring the natural beauty of Tasmania's Far South. This special habitat is home to a unique range of flowers, birds and animals, a community found nowhere else. Nearby are Hastings Caves and Southwest National Park. In the distance, are the sometimes snow capped  Southern Ranges.

Important Information

This eco-retreat in Far South Tasmania is everything that a city hotel is not. We feature:
  • 12 volt solar and wind generated electricity.
    There is limited 240 volt electricity available for small devices only.
  • There is no nightclub, bar, taxi, reception desk etc. You have sole occupancy. There are no other guests. Access is self service by key code box.
  • Heating is by wood fired slow combustion heater.
  • Water is from roof tanks, heated by solar and wood, toilet is dry composting, bath is outdoors with mountain views.
If all this sounds good, use the "Book Now " button to reserve your stay at Buttongrass Retreat. Otherwise, you might prefer a conventional cottage nearby at Huon Country Cottage.
